What can entrepreneurs learn from ITV and Friends Reunited?

Dan Martin's picture

In December 2005, ITV paid £170m for internet social network Friends Reunited. Today, less than four years later, the struggling broadcaster sold it to DC Thomson, the publisher of the Beano, for £25m.

ITV chairman Michael Grade has tried to deflect criticism of the £145m loss by emphasising that the "current management team" did not buy the website and the £25m price tag reflects the impact of the recession.

But what can small business owners learn from ITV's misfortune? Share your thoughts below.
