A lesson in the business benefits of saying thankyou

Businesses don't have to be running for years to provide great business lessons; they can come from the youngest of companies. An example was provided to me last week by Concept Cupboard, a start-up that's just six months old.

Earlier this year I interviewed the company's managing director Chris Dodson. The video interview proved popular with over 1,000 views. Chris dropped me a line soon after to thank me for the coverage and to let me know that he had received a business lead as a result. Such a great and simple thing to do but that isn't the lesson.

Last week I received a postcard. In these days of social media such a delivery is rare so it was nice to receive.

It had been sent by Chris and included a personal, hand written message (image one above) thanking me again for writing about Concept Cupboard. On the front was an image (image two above) telling me that I'd made the company's 'Wall of Fame' which included a QR code. When scanning the code it took me to this page where images of the people, including me, who've supported the company during the past six months appear with a link to their individual websites.

The experience really made me smile and I told many colleagues who were equally impressed. It also inspired me to write this blog post which has provided yet more traffic to Concept Cupboard's website!

Other business owners have a lot to learn from Chris.

It's a hugely simple idea which cost very little money to implement but has had lasting impact. Saying thankyou is very easy to do but often overlooked so why not think creative and come up with a way to thank your customers, clients, contacts and partners which could bring business benefits.
