If any entrepreneur is in demand at the moment it's Evan Williams, co-founder of internet phenomenon Twitter. I've seen a few interviews with the business owner and he comes across as a modest chap who isn't entirely comfortable with all the attention he's getting. But given the huge success of Twitter - and Blogger which he also helped create - all entrepreneurs would do well to listen to his words of wisdom.
Last week, Williams spoke at an event organised by the Online News Association in San Franscisco which as well as talking about his plans for the future of Twitter, he offered some advice to other business owners. You can watch the interview in full below but here the key points of guidance I've picked out:
- Be careful who you involve, especially early on
- Work out who you need to listen to and who you need to ignore
- Start small
- Be prepared to fail
- Create something you want to see in the world, not something your MBA student friend tells you the world needs
