So Microsoft has finally confirmed a mid-Autumn release for Windows 7. The Redmond-based Corporation has revealed on its Windows blog that the operating system will be heading to retail on October 22nd – though the ‘Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program’ will be launching later in the summer. In short, participating PC manufacturers will package a voucher with every purchase enabling users the chance to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 once the OS launched.

The last week has seen Microsoft give into the three-application limit on the Windows 7 Starter Edition, which now means netbooks running the OS will be able to have as many apps open as they please (within the restrictions of the hardware). It sounds like community power won that battle then! Microsoft’s hardware division has also confirmed the development of future products that will utilise the new features of Windows 7.
