The Boldest Man in Business

Back to blog homepage for: Funding Enterprise: freeing-up money to help grow great British businesses

Martin got his van today.

We all went outside and oohed and aahed at it, not so much because it was a van - although it is a very big one - but more because the fuzzy vision of just a few weeks ago is now a bald reality.

Baldmaninavan, in fact....and you can add .com to that.

The website will tell you all but, briefly, Martin is the finest motivational speaker and personal coach that I have ever met. I have a special relationship we him - we Action Twin. This basically mean that we spur each other on daily (and at the oddest hours of the night and very early morning via text and email) to refuse to accept anything but the very best in our performances and outputs as each of us carves out his growing business niche. It's dynamite and I explain more about Action Twinning in other blogs on this site.

But I digress. Martin has sold his car, bought the van, is decking it out and shortly will be touring the UK, spreading his inspirational beliefs and techniques.

On Saturday we went out together to talk about it. We took a little trip on my Kwacker ZX10 (neither tends to do things by halves) and headed off up the high Cat & Fiddle route before the new average speed cameras, ahem, spoil the view.

We sat outside the second highest pub in England, savouring the pint tankards full of giant homemade chips which are the place's specialities. A steady stream of other superbikes poured their sinuous mayhem round the hairpins and in and out of the moorland carpark.

But we just stayed there quietly on the wall, staring out across the great Cheshire plain to the Welsh Marches as far away into the distance as you could possibly ever imagine being able to see.

"You know, Malcolm, this trip is going to the making of me," said Martin softly, without the slightest hint of bravado.

"Yes, we know. It is the boldest thing I have seen in business and as such it is already successful," I replied.

Indeed, it is the bravest (and baldest!) thing I have seen in business.

Great business action can be so utterly beautiful and utterly awesome when it is conceived and executed well.

- Martin Robert Hall kicks off his baldmaninavan tour on May 16. You can follow it via www.baldmaninavan.com which carries evolving details of how you can follow him online or catch him in person.

- His awestruck Action Twin Malcom Evans is a corporate culture specialist and is not overly hirsuite on top either!
