Beat deadline stress: Self Assessment Online filing tips

HM Revenue and Customs logoJohn Stokdyk examines techniques for coping with the Self Assessment tax filing season.

Nearly 2 million Self Assessment tax returns were filed by the end of December 2007 - more than a quarter up on the previous year, according to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

So far, the online Self Assessment infrastructure has coped with the workload. And, to satisfy the query "are any of you spending Christmas day filing your tax returns?", 489 were submitted on Christmas day. Just under 3,500 were filed on New Year's day.

A total of 1,992,577 returns were filed online between 6 April and 30 December 2007 compared to 1,580,254 during the same period the previous year, an increase of 26%.
