Search is on for enterprise hotspot

Organised by the government-backed Make Your Mark campaign, Enterprising Britain is an annual scheme which celebrates areas which have done most to boost the setting up of new businesses.

The 2008 initiative was launched on Monday at Port Vale Football Club in North Staffordshire, the area which took the prize last year after transforming from a place previously dubbed the worst area in Britain to set up a business to one which has seen the creation of 500 new start ups and 1,000 new jobs.

Shriti Vadera, minister for business and competitiveness, said: "Enterprise, especially small businesses, start ups and growing companies are the heart of the UK's economy.
