When in roaming: Remote working for small businesses
Wireless technology means entrepreneurs are no longer confined to the office to do business but are the devices as reliable as the humble PC? Louise Druce finds out.
Love it or loathe it, the onslaught of mobile devices means business execs are expected to be contactable whenever and wherever they are, even mid-flight if new EU laws have their way. But technology can only be as effective as the people using it.
The two biggest concerns for entrepreneurs when it comes to mobile technology are costs and security. And for the latter, it's not just firewalls and viruses you need to be wary of. According to research from Vodafone, 70% of all workers talk business on their mobiles in public, with a significant number discussing critical or confidential issues – 26% of respondents confessed to following up a sales lead after overhearing a conversation on someone else's phone.
Costs, however, are much easier to account for if you choose the right service provider.
