Campaign celebates social enterprises' added-value

A new campaign stressing the added-value businesses with a social purpose bring to society has been launched.

The More For Your Money initiative aims to demonstrate that not only do consumers receive high quality goods and services when they do business with a social enterprise but they also get the extra piece of mind from knowing that their money is being used to do good.

Launched by the UK's 33 social enterprise ambassadors, entrepreneurs running businesses which give all or the majority of their profits to a community or environmental cause, the campaign is aimed at boosting interest in the rapidly growing sector.

There are currently around 55,000 social enterprises in the UK with a combined annual turnover of £27bn. They account for 5% of all businesses with employees, and contribute £8.4bn per year to the UK economy.

Bergin O'Malley, ambassadors campaign manager, said social enterprises go above and beyond in providing something extra.

She explained: "More for your Money will showcase how social enterprises deliver more value, whether you're a consumer buying Fairtrade, a commissioner purchasing recycling services for your local area, or an investor looking for a solid investment with an environmental or social impact. Social enterprises go further to deliver that bit more."

Among the ambassadors backing the campaign is Craig Dearden-Phillips, founder of Speaking Up. "Speaking Up is not just any provider but one that reinvests all its profits in new social projects, employs 25% disabled people and gives free time, energy and talent to strengthen the communities in which we operate," he said. "Put simply – more for your money."
