Flexible working: The tools an SME needs

With Work Wise Week and National Work From Home Day happening this week and next small and medium sized business owners across the UK are, once again, considering the merits of flexible working.

In many instances SMEs can confidently claim to be ahead of corporates when it comes to allowing staff to work flexibly. However, the difference between allowing staff the freedom to choose when they work and giving them the tools which enable total flexible working is a significant one.

So, if you are a small or medium sized business what are your options? Like any business in our current climate, cost is a consideration. Any investment you make in flexible working technologies will have to demonstrate a solid ROI. Here are some suggestions:

The first and most obvious step is to look at your handsets. The traditional hierarchy in which only senior executives were issued with a BlackBerry has slowly crumbled as the price point of devices has dropped and the number of devices available has increased.

The good news is that devices and software which enable mobile working are more affordable and simpler to use than ever before.
