My media week: Learn from the experts before diving straight in

Public relations is the discipline focussed on the management of individual or corporate reputation. Each week I shall reflect on the past seven days, looking at the winners and losers featured within the media and offer SMEs an insight into some of the tips and tricks used when dealing with the press.

Media coverage throughout the past seven days has been largely dominated by the Olympics. As the Great Britain team continue to do well, lying third in the medal tables as I write, one of Team GB's biggest stars has turned out to be Tom Daley, a 14 year old, 5ft 2in diver.

Tom's abilities on a diving board, as well as his handling of the media, have laid the foundations for him to become a national hero.
