Women given chance to secure star business mentors

Budding female entrepreneurs are being encouraged to enter a new mentoring competition which matches new company owners with successful businesswomen.

Organised by FreshIdeas Events and backed by organisations including Business Link, HSBC and BT, The Mentor Competition is aimed at giving women in London the opportunity to have some of the UK's most high profile and successful businesswomen work with them to help them achieve their goals.

Among the mentors taking part are Karen Darby, who in 2006 sold her company SimplySwitch to the Daily Mail for £22m, Karen Hanton, founder of restaurant review website toptable.co.uk and Kerrie Keeling, managing director of construction company A Woman's Touch and the 2006 Natwest Business Woman of the Year.

Ten women will be selected from those who apply and matched to one of the mentors, who will spend six months assisting them in making their business idea a reality.
