Organisations honoured for business support success

The National Enterprise Network (NEN) has revealed the winners of its fifth annual awards during a gala dinner held in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The organisation, a partner of The Pitch 2011, dedicated awards to business support organisations for a range of achievements including customer focus, best local network, and personal achievement, during its annual conference.O
 
Colchester-based Colbea won the award for Customer Focus, thanks to its “commitment to meeting the needs of enterprising people with the creation of a Social Enterprise Network Hub for its local area and secondly in providing local support for a programme designed to stimulate enterprise culture in stroke survivors and carers”.
 
Erewash Partnership in Ilkeston, Derbyshire was won the “extremely competitive” Best Local Network or Partnership category. Salma Chaudhry from CENTA in Nelson, Lancashire was awarded the personal achievement award after her community outreach strategy.
 
Two chairman’s awards were announced at the dinner, which recognised the work of Sandy Ogilvie of PNE Group and George Derbyshire, former CEO of NFEA (NEN’s previous name).
 
Commenting on the 2011 awards, Dawn Whiteley, CEO of the National Enterprise Network, said: “The objective of the National Enterprise Network Awards is to recognise outstanding achievement amongst our members and also to showcase successful projects and programmes.
 
“As one of the judges this year, it was encouraging to receive so many strong applications demonstrating examples of innovation and proactivity, initiatives that are both successful and impactful in supporting the pre-start and start-up clients our enterprise support organisations serve.”
