- Trust is vital in the current climate
- There are key actions that help build trust
- Development expert Tessa Hood presents the trust list
Reputation is something hard won and easily lost. When customers and associates feel they can trust you, you’re already half way there. Delivering a first class service is one thing, but there are many ways to foster trust in the people you interact with. Tessa Hood presents some her golden rules for establishing trust.
Make sure that your key soft skills are well developed – i.e. when you’re first introduced; warm facial expressions, positive body language, (i.e. no folded arms, or fidgety movements), a well-modulated voice, careful attention to dress, a firm handshake and respectful eye contact will make the first and future meetings start out on the right foot and develop a foundation for trust.
Take the time to maintain good eye contact and really hear what your opposite number is saying and what he/she wants. During a conversation, if we are thinking about what we might say next our eyes tend to wander up and outward which can lead to a perceived lack of attention. Try not to look over their shoulder or lose attention when they’re speaking.
