Abolished RDAs: "We are ready for change"

England's Regional Development Agencies, whose abolition was announced in the Emergency Budget, have said they accept the change and will support the government in the transition to a new system.

Although not mentioned by George Osborne during his speech on Tuesday, the full Budget report revealed that the RDAs, which promote business support and economic development in England, will be scrapped later this year and be replaced by new Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP). Among the RDAs responsibilities is funding for most of the regional Business Link support networks.

In a national statement, the RDAs said: "The RDA Network accepts change is coming and we are ready for it.  We are committed to ensuring as smooth a transition as possible. 

"For us, it is the work (and the expertise that underpins it) that matters, more than the institutional arrangements – vital work at such a critical time for the national economy."
