Bristol entrepreneur puts himself up for grabs in charity raffle

A Bristol small business owner has donated eight hours of his time to raise funds at one of more than 160 charity events taking place around the world on the same day.
Danny Maddocks, founder of Baby’s First Calendars, is contributing a working day to the raffle at Bristol Twestival Local which is a part of a worldwide initiative organised through Twitter.
From Bangalore to Birmingham and Singapore to Sao Paolo, parties will take place around the world on 24 March organised by groups of enthusiastic tweeting volunteers.
Bristol’s event at Metropolis will feature music and comedy plus the raffle which as well as Maddocks’ prize includes an iPad 2, a Kindle, tickets to shows at the Bristol Hippodrome and afternoon tea at Hotel du Vin.
All of the money raised in the city goes to the Rainbow Centre for Children, a Knowle-based charity which provides free and professional support to children and their families affected by bereavement and life threatening illness.
Through art, play and music therapy and counselling, homoeopathy and massage, the Centre supports children through the most difficult of times. It depends on donations for 100% of its income.
"I am a firm believer in giving something back and Bristol Twestival Local is the ideal way for me to do that," Maddocks said.
"Twitter is an exceptional tool for raising awareness of my company, gaining new customers and engaging with my marketplace. Every day I see tweets from frazzled people saying "there are not enough hours in the day" so I’'m donating eight hours for the winner to use as they wish.

"They may be a business owner who could use some admin help, want a banner made or a guest blog written, or they could be someone who needs a room decorated or their car cleaned. Whatever they have been putting off due to a lack of time, they can use my prize to get it done."
Dan Martin, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk and lead organiser of Bristol Twestival Local, added: "The generosity of the Bristol business community has been overwhelming and we can safely say that our event will feature one of the biggest raffles the city has ever seen!
"One mother supported by the Rainbow Centre for Children described it as helping families "work through the past, live through the present and walk into the future". The generosity of those supporting Bristol Twestival Local will ensure that those efforts continue to happen."
