Prime minister David Cameron today invited global entrepreneurs to join UK businesses at a competition taking place during the 2012 Paralympic Games.

The Startup Games, to be held in London's digital cluster Tech City, will see business owners from around the world present their business to experts with participants and winners visiting the Olympic Park.

The initiative is organised by Olympic Park Legacy Company and Tech City Investment Organisation, with support from StartUp Britain.

Startup business owners can submit their entry applications from March 2012. The finals will be held during the 2012 Paralympics and finalists will receive support should they wish to bring their business to Tech City.

BusinessZone.co.uk contacted Tech City for more information but a spokesperson was unable to provide further details about how the completion will work.

Eric Van der Kleij, CEO of the Tech City Investment Organisation, said: "2012 is an exciting year for the UK, and the world’s attention will be focussed on London and the Olympic Games.

"The StartUp Games allow us to showcase the very best of Tech City and the fantastic facilities of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to some of the world's very best startups, while inspiring and encouraging our own startups to excel."

Co-founder of StartUp Britain, Michael Hayman, added: "Hosting the StartUp Games is a unique opportunity to bring together some of the world’s highest calibre entrepreneurs to inspire and learn from each other.

"In the current economic climate, training and talent development are as important as ever, and we are proud to be supporting this event to help bring together young businesses alongside inspiring business leaders."

News of the Startup Games, launched to coincide with the 200 days countdown to London 2012, follows research which claimed that 25% of business owners believe the Games will have a negative impact on their operations.
