Charlie Mullins runs Pimlico Plumbers, a company turning over £15m a year. Not bad for a man who left school aged 15 with no qualifications. Dan Martin finds out how he did it.
Charlie Mullins is your classic salt of the earth type. Never one to shy away from speaking his mind, he prides himself on honesty, transparency and good service; something that can’t be said about many of his fellow plumbing companies.
With working class roots in North London, Mullins was always destined to be a tradesman and started getting up close and personal with u-bends at a young age. “When I was nine I used to bunk off school and work with a local plumber,” he explains. “The seeds of my future career were undoubtedly sown then.”
