Sheffield to host major festival for entrepreneurs

Dragons' Den judge Peter Jones, small business minister Mark Prisk and serial entrepreneur Doug Richard are some of the big names taking part in a celebration of entrepreneurship next month.
MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival takes place in venues all over Sheffield on 8-11 September and will give small business owners access to business training, mentoring and networking opportunities.
Headlining the festival will be former TV Dragon and founder of School for Startups, Doug Richard, who will be running a master-class seminar, 'MADE: In 48 Hours', which will help small businesses realise their 'digital potential' in just two days.
The initiative will also see a host of other entrepreneur-inspired events, from a special TEDx conference to 'How to Make a Million Before Lunch', the one-woman show from Rachel Bridge, enterprise editor of The Sunday Times. The week will also include the launch of the National Enterprise Academy, headed by Peter Jones and a special entrepreneur reception with minister for business and enterprise, Mark Prisk.
In addition, BusinessZone.co.uk, a media partner of the event, will host a special mentoring session under the banner of The Pitch 2010, the nationwide pitching competition for small business owners. At the free event on 9 September at the National Enterprise Academy, Sheffield, successful entrepreneurs will be on hand to give delegates one-on-one practical advice for starting and growing a business.
Michael Hayman, co-founder of communications company Seven Hills which is organising the festival, told the Yorkshire Post: "Sheffield has superb enterpreneurial credentials and is very well known for small businesses. If Leeds has financial services and Manchester has retail, then enterprise works well in Sheffield. We want to sharpen up the credentials in that area.
"At the same time, the government, particularly George Osborne, the chancellor, has started to talk about an enterprise-led recovery – we feel we need to get in very quickly."
MADE: The Entrepreneur Festival is backed by corporate supporters including Business Advantage, Coutts & Co, DLA Piper, Grant Thornton, NatWest and O2 in addition to Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield and Creativesheffield. Both universities in Sheffield will play host to events throughout the festival.
