Brown unveils new investment corporation to support growth businesses

  • National investment corporation will finance high growth businesses
  • Government spokesperson says full details will be in pre-budget report

Gordon Brown has announced the creation of a £1bn national investment corporation to help high growth and innovative businesses through the recession.

Delivering a speech at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton, the prime minister said; "The best way to finance can serve our country now is to help ensure that the inventions and innovations pioneers in Britain are developed and manufactured in Britain.

"So we will create a new national investment corporation to provide finance for growing manufacturing and other businesses; our £1bn innovation fund will back the creativity and inventions that are essential to the economy."
