Budget 2009: VAT to return to 17.5% next year

  • Standard VAT rate to return to 17.5% from 1 January 2010

  • Experts claim VAT may rise further in next year's pre-budget report

Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced as part of his 2009 budget that the standard VAT rate, currently at 15%, will return to 17.5% from January next year.
