The Business Boot Camp: Mission one – PR with Paula Gardner

The four cadets taking part in BusinessZone.co.uk's Business Boot Camp have received details of their first mission from our expert mentor. Get the inside track on their briefing about PR.

The Business Boot Camp kicked off last week with a great mentoring session led by small business PR guru Paula Gardner, founder of www.DoYourOwnPR.com.

This year, as part of BusinessZone.co.uk's exciting new initiative The Business Factory, The Boot Camp will be leading four entrepreneurs through a series of tasks involving marketing, social media and PR.

Paula got the ball rolling in style with an hour long session in which she analysed each of the cadet’s current situations, set out the problems they face and advised on the best way forward to complete a main task at the end of the two month mission.

"I've thought strategically about what you can do during this programme that will stretch you, give you lots of new skills and contacts, and also make a difference to your business," she told them.

"You can be stretched all you want," she added. "But if it doesn't actually make a difference to the money coming in then it hasn’t done its job."

Each cadet was given some preparatory work to complete, building press contact lists and identifying potential partners for mutually beneficial PR ventures.

You can read exactly what Paula said to each cadet on the Tasks page of the Boot Camp website, along with the first blogs from the Boot Camp Cadets.

We will be following our four entrepreneurs as they progress through the Boot Camp programme, reporting on what the mentors tell them, what they learn and how well they do in the tasks they’re set.

Why not take the advice on board yourself? Select the cadet whose business situation most resembles your own and see if the advice given can be applied to your own situation.

Have a go at the tasks that are set and be sure to let us know how it works out for you.
