Carlsberg slammed for 95-day supplier payment terms

A small business group has criticised Danish brewer Carlsberg for extending the time it takes to pay suppliers to almost 100 days.

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) said the company, the world's fourth largest beer-maker, is the latest to enter its 'Late Payment Hall of Shame'.

Under new terms, the business will now pay suppliers 95 days from the end of the month in which an invoice is sent out. As a result, some businesses supplying Carlsberg, which recently announced second quarter pre-tax profits of £344m, will have to wait more than 120 days before the company pays up.

The FPB said the practice was "wholly unacceptable" adding that it has written to UK chief executive Isaac Sheps urging him to sign up to the government's Prompt Payment Code.
