Duncan Bannatyne retains the Dragons' Den Rich List crown

Duncan Bannatyne

Entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne's personal wealth grew by £110m over the last year helping him to remain the richest panellist on BBC TV's Dragons' Den.

According to the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List, which was released today, the businessman is worth £430m compared to £320m last year.

Bannatyne, who started his first business with a £450 secondhand ice cream van, has made his money in several areas including B&Bs, nursing homes, health clubs and hotels. His Bannatyne Fitness empire is expected to make a profit of £12m for 2010.

Fellow Dragon and telecoms tycoon Peter Jones is £190m behind Bannatyne on the Rich List with £250m, an increase of £30m on 2011.

Retailer millionaire Theo Paphitis is the third richest Dragon with £170m followed by new panellist Hilary Devey who is worth £50m and Deborah Meaden with a personal wealth of £40m.

Bannayne still has a long to go if he wants to make it to the top of the Rich List overall. In first place is steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and family who are worth £17.5bn.
