A tour of recession Britain: Is the worst over?

At the height of the recession, the UK200Group of accountants and lawyers surveyed its members to find out how small businesses around the UK were coping with the downturn. Two years on, the organisation has carried out the same research. Has the situation improved for the SMEs of Great Britain? Wilf Altman finds out.

Is the worst of the economic crisis and the downturn finally over? At the height of the crisis nearly two years ago, when the City of London and the London-based press and television were accused of inflating the situation, the UK200Group of accountants and lawyers, with members throughout the regions, decided to carry out its own checks. Now, nearly two years later, has the situation facing small and medium-sized businesses improved?  Are firms less worried about rising costs, fewer orders, rising unemployment, less consumer spending, lack of finance from their banks?
