FriendFeed acquisition sparks new Facebook v Twitter battle

Real time feed generator FriendFeed has been purchased by social media giant Facebook in a multi-million dollar deal.

Facebook reportedly paid $50m for the website in a move which marks its latest attempt to compete in the real-time space alongside Web 2.0 darling Twitter.

FriendFeed, which pulls in content from sources including Gmail, StumbleUpon, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, was launched just 22 months ago by a group of former Google employees.
