Make Sir Terry Leahy 'minister for entrepreneurs', says plumbing boss
Outgoing Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy should work for the government as an ambassador for entrepreneurs, the founder of Pimlico Plumbers has claimed.
On the day Sir Terry announced his retirement as the boss of the retail giant, Charlie Mullins said he would be an effective business ambassador given that profits at Tesco grew by 341% during his 14-year tenure.
"What we need in this country is a whole lot more people like Sir Terry; a man who grew up in a rough part of Liverpool, and when he couldn't find work in his native city, came down to Wandsworth, South London to stack shelves at a Tesco store," Mullins said.
"The last Labour government put a lot of stock in image rather than substance, they appointed high-profile 'Tsars' for all manor of things from old age to drugs and business, when what they really needed to do was abandon the spin and create an atmosphere where real business people can hire apprentices not fire them.
