Sage boss urges business tweeters to be authentic

Paul Stobart, the UK managing director of software company Sage, has said authenticity is key for business owners using Twitter.

Taking control of the company's Twitter account for a Q&A on Wednesday afternoon, Stobart, in an answer to a question by BusinessZone.co.uk about business use of the social network, said: "Be authentic, use it for dialogue and enagagement with customers, and enjoy it!"

Stobart also revealed that Sage has made "a few sales" directly via Twitter and tracks them by giving followers a unique discount code.

Among his other answers, Stobart claimed that despite the recession, Sage's strategy of growth through acquisition remains on the card but "only if conditions and price are right".
