BusinessZone.co.uk editor and prolific tweeter Dan Martin will tonight (2 August 2010) steer a special social media and small business edition of #CommsChat, the popular weekly Twitter chat focusing on all things marketing, PR and communications.

To take part, use your Twitter account details to log in to http://tweetchat.com/room/commschat at 8pm. The event runs until 9pm. If you're not registered with Twitter, you can do so for free at www.twitter.com.

Here's what will be discussed:

Given that social media has levelled the marketing playing field for small business owners, engaging with customers and clients on a mass scale is now easy for companies of all sizes, right? But is it?

How can small companies effectively embrace Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook and turn tweets and posts into business opportunities?

Can entrepreneurs on a tight budget do it on their own or is there a point when they need to bring in an external agency?

And what about crisis management and PR? How should small businesses handle that?

In addition, which small companies are already getting it right and what can they learn from big business efforts such as the recent Old Spice campaign?

Can a small business really achieve the same level of success as consumer giants like Procter and Gamble?

The CommsChat special on social media and small business aims to answer those questions.

Dan Martin will lead the discussion from his @Dan_Martin Twitter account. For more information about CommsChat, visit the official blog.
