Google to offer desk space to London entrepreneurs in Tech City incubator

Tech City UK

Internet giant Google is to provide workspaces for entrepreneurs in a new base it is opening in London.

The building, which is expected to open in March, will be known as 'Campus' and offer work areas, events areas, "chilled-out relaxation points" and a cafe. According to the Evening Standard, Campus has space for over 200 desks.

The new incubator will be in a seven-story location at 4-5 Bonhill Street in the area of east London known as Tech City which has been billed by some as the UK's answer to Silicon Valley.

In a statement, Google said: "East London's Tech City is already home to hundreds of world-leading developers, entrepreneurs and ideas. It is rapidly developing into an exciting centre for tech startups. Campus' goal is to fuel the success of the UK startup community. Let's fill this town with startups."

Campus is the latest in several start-up business incubators to open up in London over recent years. Three of them, Techhub, Central and Seedcamp, are supporting the project.

Last month, prime minister David Cameron announced that empty government offices will also be handed over to entrepreneurs.

In addition, the team behind a new accelerator scheme set up by Telefonica in Spain and Latin America is looking to open up in London.
