David Cameron has appointed Lastminute.com co-founder Martha Lane Fox as Digital Champion, a role similar to one she held under the Labour government.
In a letter to the entrepreneur, the prime minister said her appointment was "part of the government's drive to increase transparency and accountability" in the way the public can access services online.
Without making reference to her previous role as Digital Inclusion Champion under Gordon Brown, Cameron said Lane Fox's role would include promoting the Race Online 2012 campaign which aims to encourage as many people and businesses as possible to get on the internet during the next two years. She is also tasked with leading work to drive efficiencies through the greater use of online services across government.
