- Microsoft launches Windows 7
- New operating system offers improved cost efficiencies and productivity
- New security features
- Can it banish the negativity surrounding Vista?
Jon Wilcox finds out how the new operating system aims to improve workflow and cost efficiencies for small businesses.
“We’re meeting the challenges of the new workplace.” That’s the message from Robert Epstein, head of SME at Microsoft UK. This week's launch of Windows 7 is seen as a fresh start for the company, three years after the release of the much maligned Windows Vista.
The corporation is pitching Windows 7 towards small businesses by highlighting three distinct areas of improvement: cost savings, better productivity levels, and innovation. For instance, the operating system is much more scalable than its predecessor, allowing it to run on up to 60% of the current PC install base. That level of compatibility means SMEs can offer a fresh lease of life to aging hardware with nothing more than a software upgrade.
