New website to act as bridge between the how and why of Cloud Computing

Clouds on laptop screen

Sift Media, the publisher of BusinessZone.co.uk, has announced the launch of PlatformCloud9.com, a new website focusing on the building of practical Cloud IT services for businesses.

Launched at Monday's Business Cloud Summit in London, the new community sits alongside BusinessCloud9.com, which focuses on the use and application of Cloud solutions.

As well as covering topics such as infrastructure as a service, platform as a service and developments in data centre and Cloud Computing architecture, PlatformCloud9, to be fully launched in January 2012, will track the changes coming for developers and the new opportunities rising as more traditional development tasks become automated.

Stuart Lauchlan, head of editorial at Sift Media, said: "Three years ago we launched BusinessCloud9, pioneering the coverage of the business application of Cloud Computing from the perspective of the people who use it.

"With PlatformCloud9 we will be adding another layer and looking at the nuts and bolts of the Cloud from the perspective of the people who build it and keep it afloat."

Martin Banks, an ICT journalist with over 40 years experience of covering the technology industry, will edit the new website. "The arrival of Cloud Computing has served to emphasise the gap in mutual understanding that still exists between what business people need and what the technologies and technologists can provide," Banks said.

"There is still a need for a common language both sides understand and my hope is that PlatformCloud9 can help create that."
