Twitter and Facebook attacks aimed at silencing one user

The major online attack which saw Twitter disappearing from the internet may have been targeted at one person - an anti-Russian blogger from Tbilisi.

On Thursday afternoon, the popular website was brought down for several hours by a denial of service attack (DOS) and other websites including Facebook, LiveJournal and Blogger were also disrupted.

Speculation spread quickly across the internet about the individuals behind the incident but according to Max Kelly, Facebook's chief security officer, it was all about a Georgian blogger going under the name of 'Cyxymu' who has posted anti-Russian messages.
